The Opportunity
A leading private equity investor is completing the acquisition of a high-quality UK industrial services platform and is looking to appoint an M&A Director to play a central role in executing an ambitious buy-and-build strategy. The platform operates across the broader industrial maintenance, asset integrity and technical services market, providing mission-critical services to customers across energy, infrastructure, industrial and other technically demanding end-markets. The existing business has established capabilities across areas including asset protection, specialist coatings, inspection and non-destructive testing, with a highly recurring customer base, long-standing blue-chip relationships and strong exposure to the offshore energy and wider industrial economy. The objective is to create an increasingly integrated service offering capable of supporting customers throughout the lifecycle of complex industrial assets.
The Role
The M&A Director will become the senior dedicated M&A professional within the platform and work closely with both the private equity sponsor and senior management team. This is a highly visible role combining strategy, origination and transaction execution, with significant influence over the development of the platform.
Responsibilities:
- Help define and continually refine the platform's acquisition strategy and target universe.
- Develop a detailed understanding of attractive subsectors, capabilities and geographical expansion opportunities.
- Build and maintain a proprietary pipeline of acquisition targets across the UK and potentially wider European markets.
- Proactively originate opportunities through direct engagement with shareholders, founders, advisers and industry participants.
- Evaluate potential acquisitions from both a financial and strategic perspective.
- Assess how individual targets complement the wider platform through new customers, capabilities, geographies and technical expertise.
- Lead transactions throughout the full M&A lifecycle from initial engagement through valuation, due diligence, negotiation, financing and completion.
- Coordinate financial, commercial, legal, tax and operational due diligence workstreams.
- Build and review investment cases, financial models and board / investment committee materials.
- Work closely with the private equity sponsor on transaction structuring and investment decision-making.
- Partner with management to assess integration priorities and synergy opportunities.
- Help establish a repeatable and institutionalised M&A capability as acquisition activity increases.
- Develop relationships across the fragmented industrial services ecosystem and act as a senior external representative of the platform.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Why Join?
This is an opportunity to join a private equity-backed platform at the beginning of its buy-and-build journey rather than once the consolidation strategy has already been executed. The incoming M&A Director will inherit an active acquisition pipeline while also having the opportunity to shape the longer-term strategy and acquisition universe. Significant direct exposure to the private equity sponsor and senior management. A genuine mandate to execute multiple acquisitions. The opportunity to help build a market-leading industrial services platform. Exposure to highly attractive structural themes across industrial maintenance, offshore energy, infrastructure and asset integrity. Significant responsibility for determining which capabilities and businesses the group acquires. The opportunity to establish and ultimately build out the platform's internal M&A function. A highly competitive senior-level compensation package with the potential for meaningful long-term value creation participation.
This would suit an ambitious M&A professional who wants to move beyond advising on individual transactions and instead help build a business through M&A over an entire private equity investment cycle.
