About Maambo
Sometimes you don't need another person telling you what you should do. You need someone who genuinely understands what you are going through.
Maambo is building a new kind of support community, connecting people facing life's challenges with trained mentors who have lived through something similar themselves.
Our mentors aren't therapists or coaches. They are real people with real lived experience, trained to listen, connect and offer compassionate, non judgemental peer support.
We are looking for a new kind of Maambo Mentor. Someone who doesn't just want to support a community. Someone who wants to help create one.
More Than Mentoring
We are looking for outgoing, socially confident people who genuinely love connecting with others. The kind of people who bring people together. You might help host a Maambo dinner or coffee morning. Start an interesting conversation on social media. Bring together a group of people around a shared life experience. Attend an event and represent Maambo. Introduce us to a community, organisation or group you think should know about us. Or come to us with an idea we haven't thought of yet. You don't need to be an influencer or have thousands of followers. But you should be proactive, comfortable meeting new people and excited about helping build a community from the ground up.
If you're the person who organises the dinner, starts the WhatsApp group, introduces two strangers because you know they'll get along, or somehow ends up knowing everyone in the room we would really like to meet you.
The Mentor Side of the Role
Alongside helping us grow the Maambo community, you will be trained to provide one to one peer support sessions to people experiencing challenges such as:
- Divorce and separation
- Loneliness
- Parenting pressures
- Grief and loss
- Burnout
- Career challenges
- Family conflict
- Chronic illness
- Major life changes
- Starting again after a difficult period
Sessions take place online via secure video call. You don't need professional counselling experience. What matters is that you've lived through something meaningful, gained perspective from it and can use that experience to make another person feel understood and less alone.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Who We Would Love to Meet
We are particularly interested in people who are:
- Natural connectors. You enjoy meeting people, introducing people and creating relationships.
- Socially confident. You feel comfortable walking into a room, starting a conversation and getting to know people.
- Community-minded. You may already be involved in social groups, clubs, sports, parent communities, professional networks, charities, alumni groups, local communities or other networks or perhaps you are simply very good at creating them.
- Creative and proactive. You don't always wait to be told what to do. You have ideas and enjoy turning them into something.
- Comfortable being visible. You are happy appearing in regular Maambo videos, conversations and social content and talking naturally on camera.
- A natural host. The idea of helping organise a coffee morning, walk, dinner, workshop or conversation doesn't scare you it sounds fun.
- Warm and approachable. People tend to open up to you and trust you.
- Emotionally mature. You know the difference between sharing your experience and making someone else's experience about you.
- Reliable. If you say you are going to show up, you show up.
What You Could Be Doing and Getting Paid For
No two Maambo Mentors need to contribute in exactly the same way. Depending on your strengths and interests, you could:
- Deliver paid one-to-one peer-support sessions.
- Help host Maambo community events.
- Create or appear in short social media content.
- Join conversations, interviews and discussions.
- Suggest and develop new community ideas.
- Help us reach communities that could benefit from Maambo.
- Represent Maambo at selected events.
- Bring people together around shared experiences.
- Contribute your perspective to workshops and group conversations.
- Help us understand what people actually want from a modern support community.
We don't expect you to pressure friends into becoming customers or turn your personal relationships into sales opportunities. We want something much more natural: People who genuinely enjoy creating conversations, connections and community.
Your Lived Experience
There is no single "right" Maambo story. Perhaps you have navigated divorce. Raised children through difficult periods.

Your very own career expert that helps elevate your application to the next level.
Experienced grief. Changed careers. Recovered from burnout. Experienced loneliness. Supported a family member through illness. Started your life again. Or simply lived through something that changed your perspective on life.
We're interested not only in what happened to you, but in what you learned from it and how you could use that understanding to help someone else.
What Maambo Provides
You'll receive:
- Comprehensive Maambo mentor training.
- Regular supervision and ongoing development.
- Support from the wider Maambo team.
- Opportunities to participate in events and workshops.
- Opportunities to create and contribute to Maambo content.
- The chance to develop your skills in peer support and community building.
- Paid one-to-one sessions when clients book with you.
- The opportunity to help shape an ambitious new community at an early stage.
Growing With Maambo
Maambo is an early-stage company, so this opportunity is best suited to someone who is excited by the journey of building something not simply stepping into an established role.
Mentor sessions are paid per completed booking and the volume of sessions will grow as our community and client base grows. There are no guaranteed hours or minimum number of sessions.
That's why we are particularly interested in people who want to contribute beyond one-to-one mentoring through community, events, conversations, content and ideas.
If you're looking for guaranteed hours or an immediate regular income, this may not be the right opportunity for you.
But if the idea of joining early, meeting interesting people, creating something meaningful and helping shape a new kind of support community excites you, we'd love to hear from you.
