About the Role
Avon and Somerset Police's ceremonial unit, the Lord Mayor's Mace Escort, would like to appoint volunteers to join the Sergeant at the Mace as part of the Escort.
Would you like to represent the Force at various events throughout the year?
The Lord Mayor of Bristol’s Mace Escort are ceremonial unit for Avon and Somerset Police, representing the Force and escorting the Lord Mayor at various events throughout the year.
Members of the Mace Escort wear dark blue woollen tunics and trousers, mounted medals, highly polished boots and carry the silver Mace when in the City of Bristol. They lead out at civic events such as Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph in Bristol. They pall bear for officers and staff who are afforded the Force Crest to be draped across their coffin.
The events tend to take place on Sundays and evenings, numbering roughly six per year.
Main Responsibilities Will Include
- Marching and escorting of the Lord Mayor of Bristol to civic events, such as Remembrance Sunday.
- Pall bearing of deceased serving officers and police staff members.
- Representing Avon and Somerset police at ceremonial events, such as National Police Memorial Day.
- Cleaning and maintaining personally issued uniform including tunic, cape, boots.
Please note this role attracts significant public attention and will result in publication of photos and TV coverage across multiple media types and therefore would need to sign a photography consent form.
Eligibility
You must be 18 years of age or over.
All applicants will be subject to the Force Vetting Policy and will be required to undertake and maintain the appropriate level of safeguarding training for the role.

Police Barred and Advisory lists
Individuals placed on the Police Barred and Advisory lists will not be considered for a volunteering role by the police for a minimum of 5 years from the date of listing in the case of gross misconduct, or 3 years from the date of listing in the case of poor performance.
