Machine Tool Design Engineer

The Role

You will be responsible for the design and development of mechanisms, machine systems, and complete special purpose machines.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing new machine systems, mechanisms, and components
  • Modifying and improving existing machine designs to meet customer requirements
  • Working on machine tool design, tooling, and automated systems
  • Supporting manufacturing and assembly during machine build and commissioning
  • Producing detailed CAD models and engineering drawings
  • Managing BOMs and part releases via SAP
  • Conducting design reviews, DFMEA and PFMEA
  • Supporting technical bids and customer-facing documentation

Essential:

  • Min 5 years design experience in:
    • Machine tool design
    • Special purpose machinery (SPM)
    • Bespoke automated machines / production systems
  • Strong background in mechanism and machine design (not just static components)
  • Proven experience designing moving assemblies and complex systems
  • Ability to work across the full machine lifecycle

Also desirable:

  • HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3D CAD experience (Siemens NX - advantageous)
  • Experience with manufacturing processes and assembly support
  • Familiarity with DFMEA / PFMEA / design reviews
