About The Role
We are seeking an independent, dedicated Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our Visual Computing Group (VCG). This role involves contributing to groundbreaking research and development efforts aimed at redefining gameplay and live streaming experiences through advanced neural networks and machine learning techniques. The VCG’s mission is to design and deploy state-of-the-art neural networks and ML models for game rendering and streaming systems that outperform current benchmarks in runtime efficiency, visual quality, and latency. As part of this team, you will develop innovative models for graphics and video processing, contribute to research publications, and collaborate across departments to push the boundaries of gaming and streaming technology.
Qualifications
- PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Computer Graphics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 7+ years of research and development experience in industry or academia.
- Strong proficiency in TensorFlow or PyTorch frameworks.
- Extensive experience with Python and libraries related to computer vision or graphics.
- Proven track record in developing advanced applications in image/video/graphics processing or computer vision, supported by publications or project outcomes.
- Demonstrated leadership in technical development, evidenced by publications in top-tier conferences such as CVPR, ECCV, ICCV, SIGGRAPH, or similar.
- Solid understanding of neural network architectures, including formulation and testing of advanced loss functions.
- Experience in designing and testing convolutional, recurrent, transformer-based, diffusion-based, or task-specific neural network architectures.
- Hands-on experience in training, validating, and evaluating deep neural network models on large datasets.

Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance core generative models for graphics and video processing applicable to live streaming, game rendering, and related areas.
- Conduct research and prototype innovative methods for graphics or video enhancement and data generation pipelines utilizing generative models.
- Collaborate with team members to draft research publications and patent submissions to protect intellectual property.
- Participate actively in core R&D projects, working closely with other teams within Sony Interactive Entertainment to integrate new technologies.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in machine learning, computer vision, and graphics, applying relevant innovations to ongoing projects.
- Contribute to the design of neural network architectures and loss functions tailored for specific applications in gaming and streaming.
- Assist in evaluating and benchmarking models to ensure performance improvements in visual quality, efficiency, and latency.
