About The Role
We are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Senior Machine Learning Engineer to define and lead the technical strategy for our AI and Machine Learning systems. This role focuses on developing recommendation, ranking, and personalization algorithms that significantly enhance user engagement and safety across Bumble’s suite of products. The successful candidate will have a deep expertise in building large-scale ML systems, deploying production-grade models, and designing scalable data pipelines. You will be instrumental in architecting end-to-end ML workflows, integrating advanced AI capabilities such as Large Language Models (LLMs), and deploying AI agents that support complex user interactions. Collaborating cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Data teams, you will translate business challenges into innovative ML solutions, influence technical decisions at senior levels, and foster a culture of excellence and continuous learning. Additionally, you will champion responsible AI practices, ensuring fairness, transparency, and user safety are embedded into all systems, thereby aligning technological advancements with ethical standards.

Qualifications
- 10–15 years of experience in machine learning, data science, or related fields, with a proven track record in large-scale system deployment
- Deep expertise in machine learning algorithms, recommendation systems, ranking models, and natural language processing (NLP)
- Proficiency in Python and experience with major ML frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow
- Hands-on experience in prompting, fine-tuning, and deploying Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Strong background in designing scalable data pipelines using tools like Spark, Airflow, or similar distributed systems
- Demonstrated leadership as a senior individual contributor influencing technical strategy without direct authority
- Exceptional collaboration skills, with experience working across cross-functional teams and influencing organizational outcomes
- Proven mentoring capabilities, fostering inclusive and high-performing teams
- Strong understanding of responsible AI principles, including fairness, transparency, and safety
Responsibilities
- Define and lead the technical strategy for AI and Machine Learning systems that support recommendations, ranking, and personalization across Bumble’s products
- Design, develop, and deploy production-grade ML models ensuring scalability, reliability, and high performance in high-traffic environments
- Build and deploy AI Agents utilizing raw and fine-tuned LLMs, along with sub-agents, tools, and integrations with MCP platforms
- Architect comprehensive ML pipelines, integrating data processing frameworks like Spark and Airflow with model training, evaluation, and deployment workflows
- Drive experimentation frameworks, including A/B testing and offline evaluation, to optimize model performance and product outcomes
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Data leadership to translate business needs into impactful ML solutions, influencing strategic decisions
- Mentor senior data scientists and ML engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, curiosity, and continuous improvement
- Take ownership of complex, ambiguous problems, guiding initiatives from insights to tangible impact with an agile mindset
- Champion responsible AI practices, embedding fairness, transparency, and safety into all machine learning systems
