About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Machine Learning Engineer to join our innovative R&D team at AND-E. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of our AI and ML initiatives, combining technical expertise with leadership responsibilities. As a Lead Machine Learning Engineer, you will be responsible for guiding a team of ML engineers, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the successful delivery of complex ML projects. You will play a key role in establishing best practices, supporting solution design, and overseeing the deployment and maintenance of AI-driven systems. The position offers a unique opportunity to influence the strategic direction of our ML capabilities, support pre-sales activities, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to develop scalable, robust, and innovative solutions that enhance our product offerings and customer experience. We are flexible regarding work arrangements and are happy to consider candidates preferring hybrid or remote working setups. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background in a relevant STEM discipline, with a PhD or MSc in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. You should have extensive experience in machine learning engineering, software engineering, or related technical roles, with a proven track record of delivering production-grade ML systems and leading technical teams. A solid software engineering foundation is essential, including experience with building and deploying machine learning or data-driven systems in live environments. Demonstrated experience in managing or leading ML engineers or technical contributors in a delivery-focused setting is required. Additionally, familiarity with supporting pre-sales activities, technical discovery, and opportunity shaping in collaboration with commercial teams is highly desirable. You must have the ability to provide technical leadership across solution design, deployment, and ongoing maintenance, with a strong understanding of engineering best practices such as code quality, testing, documentation, and reuse. Experience working across the entire lifecycle of AI/ML solutions, from use case discovery to deployment and continuous improvement, is crucial. Proficiency with cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and operational support for production systems will be advantageous. Excellent communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to juggle multiple projects simultaneously are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities
- Line manage and develop ML engineers, providing coaching, mentoring, performance feedback, and supporting their professional growth. Contribute to hiring, onboarding, and capability development within the ML engineering team.
- Maintain a meaningful individual contribution to technical delivery on selected projects, ensuring high standards of quality and innovation while leading multiple engagements.
- Collaborate with senior technical leaders, such as the Lead ML Scientist and Principal Engineer, to establish and embed best practices in ML engineering across the organization.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams comprising ML engineers, ML scientists, and software engineers, fostering effective communication, collaboration, and continuous improvement in delivery practices.
- Mentor junior ML engineers, supporting their technical development and enhancing the overall ML engineering capabilities within the organization.
- Support solution design and provide technical leadership to ensure ML systems are robust, scalable, and maintainable, aligning with organizational standards and best practices.
- Oversee multiple projects, coordinating efforts, managing risks, and ensuring quality assurance across all initiatives. Escalate issues as necessary to senior management.
- Contribute hands-on to technical delivery, especially on complex or high-priority projects, ensuring technical excellence and timely delivery.
- Lead use case discovery efforts and collaborate with stakeholders to identify AI and ML opportunities that align with business objectives.
- Support pre-sales activities by working with the commercial team to scope solutions and shape technical proposals.
- Partner with project management teams to plan, scope, and support the successful delivery of ML projects.
- Oversee the maintenance, monitoring, and continuous improvement of deployed ML solutions to ensure optimal performance and relevance.
- Promote reuse of frameworks, tools, and standards across projects to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Communicate complex technical decisions, risks, and trade-offs clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
