About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our client's dynamic team remotely. This senior leadership position offers an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of artificial intelligence development, contributing to the creation of advanced machine learning products that address real-world challenges. The successful candidate will take ownership of the company's machine learning platform, collaborating closely with research, software engineering, and product teams to develop scalable, reliable, and efficient AI solutions. This role is ideal for an individual who combines technical expertise with leadership capabilities, capable of guiding projects from conception through deployment while maintaining hands-on involvement in technical tasks.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational background in computer science, engineering, or a related field, with significant experience in machine learning and AI development. Proven expertise in deploying machine learning systems into production environments is essential. Candidates should have a deep understanding of modern foundation models and large language models, along with experience building scalable training and inference infrastructure. Proficiency in Python and frameworks such as PyTorch and/or JAX is required, along with familiarity with GPU training and inference infrastructure. Excellent software engineering skills, with an emphasis on maintainable, production-quality code, are critical. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across research, engineering, and product teams are also necessary. Experience mentoring engineering teams and leading technical delivery projects will be highly valued.

Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle, including data pipeline development, model training, evaluation, inference, and deployment processes.
- Fine-tune and optimize large language models using advanced techniques such as LoRA, QLoRA, supervised fine-tuning, preference optimization, and model distillation.
- Design and implement scalable inference infrastructure with a focus on reducing latency, improving reliability, and enhancing operational efficiency.
- Build and maintain high-quality data pipelines capable of handling both synthetic and real-world datasets to support model training and evaluation.
- Develop comprehensive evaluation frameworks to assess model quality, robustness, safety, and overall performance.
- Optimize GPU utilization, memory management, and inference performance to ensure seamless production deployment.
- Collaborate closely with software engineers to integrate machine learning capabilities into backend services and customer-facing applications.
- Lead the technical delivery of projects, mentor team members, and promote best practices in engineering and machine learning development.
- Balance innovative research pursuits with practical engineering considerations to deliver impactful solutions efficiently.
