About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Machine Learning Engineer to join our London office as part of our global engineering team. This hybrid role involves working three days a week in the office and focuses on developing advanced personalization and ranking models to enhance our new verticals such as groceries and retail. The successful candidate will contribute to building systems that increase user engagement by delivering tailored content and recommendations, thereby expanding our active user base beyond restaurant ordering. You will work closely with cross-functional teams across Deliveroo, DoorDash, and Wolt, tackling complex technical challenges in a fast-paced environment. Your work will directly influence how users discover and interact with new verticals, making a meaningful impact on our growth and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 3+ years of experience as an ML Engineer or Data Scientist
- Proficiency in writing high-quality production code in Python
- Experience with end-to-end model deployment and productionisation
- Strong understanding of personalization, ranking, or recommender systems
- Ability to translate complex data insights into actionable models
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Effective communication skills to collaborate across teams
- Experience with causal inference or uplift modelling is a plus but not mandatory
Responsibilities
- Develop and refine ranking models for vertical landing pages such as grocery and retail, optimizing the order in which content appears to users
- Design models that seamlessly integrate new vertical content into the homepage experience without disrupting core functionalities
- Create personalization models that leverage user behavior to generate relevant recommendations for verticals users have not yet explored
- Contribute to the development of notification targeting strategies, determining who receives notifications, the messaging, and timing to maximize engagement
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align model development with product goals and user experience standards
- Implement scalable solutions that can handle large volumes of data and real-time processing requirements
- Continuously monitor, evaluate, and improve model performance to ensure optimal impact
