About The Role

As a Machine Learning Engineer within the Data & Analytics team at Halfords, you will play a pivotal role in transforming machine learning models into robust, production-ready solutions that generate tangible business value. This position involves working at the intersection of software engineering, MLOps, and data science to develop frameworks, pipelines, and services that facilitate the deployment, monitoring, scaling, and integration of machine learning models into customer-facing and operational systems. You will collaborate closely with Data Scientists to understand their experimental models and assist in transitioning these into scalable, maintainable, and secure enterprise solutions. Your responsibilities will include designing CI/CD pipelines, automating model retraining processes, building APIs, and implementing monitoring systems to ensure ongoing model performance and reliability. The role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a data-driven transformation, embedding AI and machine learning into core business processes and customer journeys, with backing from senior leadership and a clear strategic vision. Qualifications

  • Proven experience deploying machine learning solutions into production environments
  • Strong understanding of version control practices, including Git, branching strategies, and release management
  • Proficiency in Python, with solid software engineering skills, including testing and code quality best practices
  • Experience building CI/CD pipelines and MLOps frameworks for automated deployment and retraining
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks or similar platforms such as MLFlow, KubeFlow, or SageMaker
  • Experience developing APIs, microservices, and cloud-based solutions integrating machine learning models
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with Data Scientists, Engineers, Architects, and Business Analysts
  • Knowledge of cloud-native technologies and scalable enterprise architecture
  • Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or related field (preferred but not mandatory)

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Data Scientists to transition experimental models into scalable, production-ready applications and services
  • Design, develop, and maintain MLOps frameworks, deployment pipelines, and automated model lifecycle management processes
  • Create and support CI/CD pipelines, version control systems, and automated testing for machine learning solutions
  • Build APIs, services, and integration patterns to embed machine learning models within business systems and customer-facing applications
  • Implement model monitoring, performance tracking, drift detection, and automated retraining to ensure ongoing reliability and business value
  • Utilize cloud-native technologies such as Azure Databricks, MLFlow, and related platforms to support enterprise-scale workloads
  • Collaborate with Data Engineers, Architects, and Developers to deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable machine learning solutions
  • Maintain documentation and best practices for deployment, monitoring, and scaling of machine learning models
  • Stay updated with emerging trends and technologies in MLOps and data science to continuously improve processes
