Machine Learning Researcher
A fantastic opportunity for a Machine Learning Researcher with a strong academic background and a particular interest in Large Language Models. You will help develop practical AI applications, from early research and experimentation through to implementation, working with software engineers to bring ideas into real products. The focus is on LLMs and applications such as AI copilots, agents, enterprise search and workflow automation. Relevant experience can come from PhD research or projects, so candidates who have recently completed their PhD are welcome.
Location: Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, hybrid working with compulsory attendance at the office 2 days per week
Salary: £60,000 to £80,000 per annum + benefits. A salary of £60,000 is available for a recent PhD graduate, with higher salaries for candidates with relevant experience.
Requirements for Machine Learning Researcher:
- PhD in Machine Learning or a related discipline
- A strong academic record
- Experience using PyTorch
- LLM-focused experience through research, academic projects or commercial work. This is a key part of the role, and commercial experience is not essential
- Experience with a range of machine learning techniques
- Ability to work with software engineers to take ideas from experimentation towards practical implementation
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to a range of stakeholders

Experience in any of the following would be beneficial:
- LangChain and/or LangGraph
- Developing AI agents, copilots, enterprise search or workflow automation solutions
- Working with company data, APIs or business processes
- Familiarity with Linux and Git
- A basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts and common threats
Responsibilities for Machine Learning Researcher:
- Explore and prototype machine learning solutions, with a focus on LLMs and their practical applications
- Develop and improve AI applications such as copilots, agents, enterprise search tools and workflow automation
- Work with company data, APIs and business processes to help turn AI research into useful products
- Apply techniques including language models, neural networks, statistical methods and classical machine learning where appropriate
- Collaborate with software development and security analysis teams to test and implement research outcomes
- Implement models within the wider software stack and optimise them for latency and memory, including on edge devices
- Work independently on research while contributing to team projects
