The Opportunity
As a Machine Learning Scientist, you’ll play a key role in developing innovative digital and data science solutions that support EDF’s journey towards An Electric Britain. Working across diverse business areas, you’ll help deliver projects spanning machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing, and generative AI.
You’ll work with multidisciplinary teams to explore new technologies, test ideas, and deliver machine learning solutions that solve real business challenges.
You'll have opportunities to contribute to projects involving smart meter analytics, wind turbine blade inspection, large language models, and other emerging AI technologies, helping to shape the future of digital innovation at EDF.
This is a hybrid role based from our #Hove office, with a minimum of two days per week in the office and the flexibility to work remotely for the remainder of your time.
You’ll be part of a collaborative Digital Innovation team where knowledge sharing, hack days, innovation events, and exposure to international research networks help support your professional growth and career ambitions.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Designing, developing, and adapting machine learning models to solve complex business challenges
- Exploring and implementing innovative applications of AI, including computer vision, natural language processing, and generative AI
- Building proofs of concept and delivering production-ready data science solutions
- Working with large and varied datasets to extract insights and support data-driven decision making
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external partners to deliver impactful innovation projects

Who You Are
We're looking for a Machine Learning Scientist who is passionate about digital innovation and enjoys solving complex problems through data science and AI. You'll be curious, adaptable, and able to quickly learn and apply emerging technologies. You'll enjoy exploring new ideas and delivering practical solutions using modern machine learning techniques.
Are you experienced in…?
- Holding a Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related data-intensive discipline
- Building and adapting machine learning models, including transfer learning, training, fine tuning, evaluation metrics, and explainability techniques
- Applying machine learning techniques within computer vision or natural language processing
- Using Python data science and visualisation libraries such as pandas, scikit-learn, statsmodels, matplotlib, or seaborn, alongside deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch
- Working with large datasets, data analysis, data warehouses, big data technologies, and machine learning solutions
- Designing and building complex models or algorithms capable of operating autonomously on large datasets
- Finding, assessing, and adapting solutions from the open-source ecosystem
