About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Machine Learning Scientist to serve as the technical anchor for our core discovery engine within the Trips vertical. In this strategic role, you will lead the development and execution of machine learning strategies that influence how millions of users search, discover, and organize complex travel itineraries. Your expertise will bridge cutting-edge AI research with production-grade engineering, directly impacting key business metrics such as user engagement and booking conversions. You will tackle complex, ambiguous problems at the intersection of multi-task ranking, sequential user modeling, and graph-based travel recommendations. This position offers a unique opportunity to build state-of-the-art AI systems, mentor a talented team of scientists, and drive innovation in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a highly quantitative field
  • Minimum of 8+ years of industry experience developing and deploying large-scale machine learning models in production environments
  • Proven track record of shipping ML systems capable of supporting millions of active users
  • Deep theoretical and practical expertise in retrieval and ranking algorithms, multi-task learning, and multi-objective optimization
  • Hands-on experience with sequential recommendation systems, real-time user session modeling, and long-term preference capture
  • Strong knowledge of embedding generation, deep semantic retrieval, and multi-modal representation learning
  • Proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
  • Experience with distributed computing tools like Spark and Ray, and cloud platforms including AWS or GCP
  • Desirable: Experience with Graph Neural Networks, knowledge graphs, or graph embeddings in relation to travel data
  • Familiarity with Agentic AI, Large Language Models, and autonomous planning agents
  • Experience working in e-commerce, travel tech, or two-sided marketplaces, especially with non-linear user journeys and constrained inventories
  • Strong publication record or open-source contributions in top-tier AI or IR conferences (e.g., SIGIR, KDD, RecSys, NeurIPS)

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
