I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Role description
- Candidate will be working on a press machine. They will be taking 2.7m lengths of plastic and running them through the press machine, punching holes at prescribed lengths.
- There will be full training given and the machine is set up so no measuring or technical skill required.
- Whilst this is a basic role, ideally the candidate will be used to a manufacturing environment as it can be fairly monotonous work when you are into the swing of the shift.
- Manual handling is involved in the role as they will be bringing the raw product from pallets up to the machine then back down to the pallet once complete. The product isn't particularly heavy individually, but this will be repetitive so as a result it is a fairly physical role.
Requirements
- Machine operative experience
- Strong communication skills
