Role Description

This is a full-time Machine Operator role based in Portsmouth with a hybrid working arrangement, where some administrative or planning tasks may be completed from home. The Machine Operator will operate a range of civil engineering machinery and equipment to support deep drainage, infrastructure, and concreting activities. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with routine maintenance checks
  • Handling hand tools for basic adjustments or support tasks

The role also involves collaborating closely with site supervisors and team members, adhering to all health and safety procedures, and contributing to efficient and timely completion of site works.

Qualifications

  • Skills in Machine Operation and working with various types of Machinery used in civil engineering and groundwork
  • Skills in Quality Control, including monitoring output and ensuring work meets safety and project specifications
  • Skills in using Hand Tools for adjustments, basic repairs, and supporting associated site tasks
  • Strong Communication skills for coordinating with supervisors, site teams, and project managers
  • Relevant experience in civil engineering, construction, or groundwork operations is highly beneficial
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations and safe work practices on construction sites is required
  • Ability to read basic site drawings or instructions and follow operational procedures accurately
  • Certification or training in plant/machine operation (such as CPCS or equivalent) is preferred
  • Reliable, organized, and able to work effectively both on-site and in a hybrid arrangement
