Want hands-on experience, real skills, and the chance to learn from trained engineers? Taylor Forgings Ltd is looking for a motivated individual to join their highly skilled team at their site in Sheffield as a Machine Shop Apprentice.

About the Role

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

Your training and responsibilities as a Machine Shop Apprentice, will include (but not be limited to) the following:

  • Set and operate manual lathes, milling and drilling machines as required
  • Work towards programming, setting and operation of CNC machinery
  • Accurately follow job cards and update accordingly
  • Understand and read engineering drawings/symbols
  • Operate overhead crane as required (once trained)
  • Operate forklift truck as required (once trained)
  • Work to quality standards required for the components
  • Cut materials from stock bar maintaining material identity at all times
  • Undertake final inspections of finished components
  • Maintaining a clean, organised and productive work area for colleagues and yourself
  • When trained, ensure job timings are met/exceeded

You’ll learn side-by-side with experienced engineers who are passionate about sharing their knowledge, giving you hands-on exposure to a wide range of tasks and a real understanding of how the whole business operates. With dedicated mentoring and support, you’ll build confidence, develop in-demand skills, and lay strong foundations for a long-term career in engineering.

Training schedule

The successful candidate will continue their studies with apprenticeship specialists, RNN Group at their Worksop campus on a day release format, giving you the training and support you need to become an all-rounded and successful Engineer.

Desirable qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • Maths & English (grade A*-C/9-4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
