Machine Shop Supervisor
Salary: c.£45,000–£55,000 DOE
Hours: Day shifts only
Position: Full-time, off-the-tools leadership role
I’m recruiting a Machine Shop / Tool Room Supervisor to join a growing manufacturing group. This is a leadership position with operational responsibility for a team of around 12–15 people across a multi-purpose machining and tool room environment.
The operation supports a range of internal stakeholders across a wider group of manufacturing businesses, creating significant variety in the products, requirements and technical challenges coming through the department. Working as the number two to the Manufacturing Manager, you’ll have day-to-day operational control of your area, with responsibility for people, performance, workflow, and continuous improvement.
A key part of the role will be working closely with Engineering, Planning, Material Control, and Logistics to make sure the function is operating at its best. You’ll need to understand what is coming through the operation, where constraints or inefficiencies exist, and how your team interacts with the wider manufacturing process.

I’m looking for someone who combines strong leadership skills with a good technical understanding of either CNC machining, ideally across 3–5 axis machinery, toolmaking, or both. You don’t need to be the strongest machinist or toolmaker in the room. This is an off-the-tools leadership role, and the ability to manage people, organise the operation, and drive improvements is more important. However, you’ll need enough technical credibility to understand the challenges facing the team and be prepared to support operationally when required.
There’s also a strong focus on using data to understand performance and inform improvements. I’m particularly interested in someone who wants to understand why the operation is performing as it is, identify bottlenecks, and work across functions to improve output, flow, and overall performance.
