CNC Machinist

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and motivated CNC Machinist to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining CNC machines to produce high-quality precision ceramic components while ensuring safety, quality, and productivity targets are achieved. The job will be a permanent afternoon/late shift role with final hours to be confirmed.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC milling and/or turning machines.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and work instructions.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machine settings.
  • Perform machine offsets and make program adjustments where required.
  • Conduct first-off inspections and in-process quality checks using measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM reports.
  • Ensure components are manufactured to specification and within defined tolerances.
  • Monitor machine performance and troubleshoot machining issues.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and housekeeping activities.
  • Record production and quality data accurately.
  • Adhere to all company health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Work closely with Quality personnel and Production Supervisors to resolve production issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing activities.

Essential Requirements

  • 5 years or more experience operating and setting up CNC machines in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Skilled in the use of precision measuring equipment.
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, speeds, and feeds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Good problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Apprenticeship or formal engineering qualification.

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with Fanuc, Heidenhain, or Mazatrol controls.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles.
  • Experience with multi-axis CNC machines.
  • Programming experience would be advantageous.
