Magnolia Lead / Technology Lead – Web Content Management
Location: Crawley, Sussex, UK
Work Mode: Hybrid – 15 days WFO per month
Contract Duration: 6 Months
Experience: 8+ Years overall, with 5+ years in Web Platform & CMS Backend Development
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Magnolia Lead / Technology Lead with strong expertise in Magnolia CMS, Web Content Management, CMS Development, Web Platforms, Infrastructure as Code, Networking, DNS, Load Balancing, and Observability.
The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership for web platforms and CMS development, define strategic technical direction, and drive Magnolia CMS as the organization's single technology stack.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of developers focused on Web Platforms, Magnolia CMS, Web Content Management, and CMS Development.
- Define strategic technical direction for core Magnolia platform components and establish Magnolia as the single technology stack.
- Collaborate with Architects, Product Owners, Business Stakeholders, and Cross-Functional Teams to design and implement large-scale web platforms.
- Oversee the development, testing, deployment, and migration of complex Magnolia CMS and Web Platform features.
- Develop and execute effective CMS migration strategies while ensuring platform stability and scalability.
- Ensure high standards of code quality, technical governance, security, and development best practices.
- Monitor critical Web Platform performance and proactively identify and resolve architectural and performance bottlenecks.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to senior developers and development teams.
- Drive continuous improvement across development, deployment, DevOps, and operational processes.
- Apply Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, including tools such as Terraform.
- Leverage Observability Tools, such as Datadog, to improve monitoring, performance, and operational excellence.
- Demonstrate strong expertise in Networking, DNS Configuration, Load Balancers, and Web Platform Connectivity.
- Work closely with multiple teams to resolve complex technical issues and deliver scalable web solutions.
- Support deployments, platform modernization, and migration strategies to maintain a unified Magnolia technology stack.

Required Skills & Experience
- 8+ years of experience in Software Development.
- 5+ years of extensive experience in Web Platform and CMS Backend Development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Magnolia CMS.
- Proven experience as a Magnolia Lead, CMS Lead, Technology Lead, or Technical Lead.
- Strong expertise in Web Content Management (WCM) and Web Platforms.
- Experience leading and managing development teams.
- Strong knowledge of CMS Architecture, Backend Development, Platform Development, and Migration Strategies.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), preferably Terraform.
- Experience with Observability and Monitoring Tools, preferably Datadog.
- Strong understanding of Networking, DNS Configuration, Load Balancing, and Web Infrastructure.
- Strong experience working with Architects and Cross-Functional Teams.
- Excellent understanding of Agile Development Methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle ambiguous and complex technical problems.
- Experience defining technical strategy, operational processes, development standards, and governance.
- IT-related degree or equivalent relevant experience.
