We’re looking for a practical, hands-on Maintenance Assistant who takes real pride in keeping buildings safe, well maintained and welcoming for the people who live and work in them. This is a varied role where no two days are quite the same. From carrying out everyday repairs and completing routine safety checks, to helping prepare spaces for activities or supporting with the upkeep of outdoor areas, you’ll play a key part in making sure our care home and community spaces run smoothly. Just as importantly, you’ll help create an environment where residents feel comfortable, secure and proud to call home.

This role operates on a 6-day rota (Monday to Saturday), with shifts taking place between 8:00am and 5:30pm, 22 hours per week, on £13.41 per hour.

Please note that we do not accept applications from overseas candidates who require sponsorship. All candidates must have a valid Right to Work in the UK. An enhanced DBS check will be required for this role.

Come and be part of the leading Armed Forces charity, making a difference to the lives of those who have served to keep us safe and protect our way of life.

You’ll be someone who enjoys solving problems and getting stuck in, with experience in general maintenance tasks such as basic carpentry, plumbing, decorating or repairs to fixtures and fittings. You’ll understand the importance of health and safety, keep accurate records of the checks you complete and work closely with colleagues and contractors to ensure everything is maintained to a high standard. Because you’ll often be working around residents and care staff, we’re looking for someone approachable, respectful and mindful of people’s privacy and wellbeing.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
