Role Description

The Maintenance Assistant role is a full-time, on-site position based in Livingston. In this role, the Maintenance Assistant supports the upkeep of laboratory and office facilities, including routine building maintenance, minor repairs, and basic housekeeping tasks to ensure a safe and efficient working environment. The role includes assisting with equipment maintenance, conducting preventive checks, reporting issues, and coordinating with external contractors when necessary. The Maintenance Assistant adheres to health and safety procedures, and maintains accurate records of maintenance activities. The position works closely with the wider team, responding to maintenance requests promptly and supporting operational continuity across the site.

  • Possess skills in Equipment Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance to support the reliable operation of laboratory and facility assets.
  • Possess skills in Building Maintenance and general Maintenance to carry out minor repairs, upkeep, and basic facility improvements.
  • Possess strong Communication skills to report issues, follow instructions, and collaborate effectively with colleagues and external contractors.
  • Basic knowledge of health and safety practices, including safe use of tools and equipment, is beneficial.
  • Previous experience in a maintenance, facilities, or similar hands-on role is advantageous, particularly within industrial, laboratory, or manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work with minimal supervision, and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures, systems, and equipment as the facility evolves.
