About KYN
KYN is a brand-new care home company focused on offering an elevated approach to care: Individualised journeys built around the needs and interests of our residents in beautiful surroundings with life-enriching practices.
Our first home, KYN Bickley, opened in February 2023. KYN Bickley is an 86-bedroom home offering each resident an elegant and comfortable bedroom, communal areas for dining and reclining; and inviting outdoor terraces overlooking landscaped gardens bordered by woodland. We have a further three care homes in development in London.
About the opportunity:
As a Maintenance Assistant you will be responsible for:
- To support the Maintenance Engineer in creating a safe and well-presented environment whilst consistently delivering an exceptional experience for our residents and their families
- Undertake daily tasks so the functional upkeep of the care home, bedrooms, communal areas involving indoor and outdoor are well maintained and kept to the KYN standard
- Support the Maintenance Engineer in health and safety, compliance checks and risk assessments
- To undertake routine maintenance tasks and minor general repair work as requested by the Maintenance Engineer
- Ensure that the maintenance of the garden and exteriors is to the KYN standard
- To check the maintenance request book for tasks to be completed
- Support the Maintenance Engineer in weekly fire alarm tests and routine checks of fire doors, security doors and window restrictors
- To undertake routine checks of Wheelchairs, Reclining Chairs and Nursing Beds
- Support the Maintenance Engineer in monthly visual checks of the firefighting apparatus, e.g., extinguishers and hydrants and document in line with compliance
- To check water temperatures of sinks, showers, and baths monthly
- To ensure water flushing is undertaken in line with risk assessments, KYN policy and national standards
- To keep accurate records of any work undertaken
- To clean shower heads and waste traps
- Support the Maintenance Engineer in checking water hardness and water temperatures within the boiler room and keep accurate records
- To keep the water softener topped up with salt
- To fit shelves and picture hooks in residents' rooms as requested
- To assist staff with moving furniture as requested
- To ensure a supply of matched paint and undertake redecoration and repair works to the interior and exterior of the building
- To change light bulbs and clean shades as required
- To ensure that the grounds and car park are free from litter
- To ensure external bin areas are kept clean and tidy
- To support the Life Enriching Activity Lead/Life Enriching Activity Co-ordinators in the implementation of a whole home approach to the provision of meaningful occupation for all residents, taking a proactive attitude towards the engagement of all residents at all times
- To be flexible to work in several KYN Homes, supporting other maintenance personnel and covering holiday periods
- To be able to carry out the physical demands of the job safely
- To adhere to KYN's policies and procedures

- Experience in a similar role
- A professional, who understands the importance of maintaining high standards - working to statutory requirements and compliance to ensure our residents enjoy a safe and comfortable environment

- Have basic health and safety qualifications or working knowledge
