KYN is a brand-new care home company focused on offering an elevated approach to care: Individualised journeys built around the needs and interests of our residents in beautiful surroundings with life-enriching practices.
Our first home, KYN BICKLEY, opened in February 2023. KYN BICKLEY is an 86-bedroom home offering each resident an elegant and comfortable bedroom, communal areas for dining and reclining; and inviting outdoor terraces overlooking landscaped gardens bordered by woodland. We have a further three care homes in development in London.
About the opportunity:
As a Maintenance Assistant, you will be responsible for:
- Supporting the Maintenance Engineer in creating a safe and well-presented environment whilst consistently delivering an exceptional experience for our residents and their families.
- Undertaking daily tasks so the functional upkeep of the care home, bedrooms, communal areas involving indoor and outdoor are well maintained and kept to the KYN standard.
- Supporting the Maintenance Engineer in health and safety, compliance checks, and risk assessments.
- Undertaking routine maintenance tasks and minor general repair work as requested by the Maintenance Engineer.
- Ensuring that the maintenance of the garden and exteriors is to the KYN standard.
- Checking the maintenance request book for tasks to be completed.
- Supporting the Maintenance Engineer in weekly fire alarm tests and routine checks of fire doors, security doors, and window restrictors.
- Undertaking routine checks of Wheelchairs, Reclining Chairs, and Nursing Beds.
- Supporting the Maintenance Engineer in monthly visual checks of the firefighting apparatus, e.g., extinguishers and hydrants, and documenting in line with compliance.
- Checking water temperatures of sinks, showers, and baths monthly.
- Ensuring that water flushing is undertaken in line with risk assessments, KYN policy, and national standards.
- Keeping accurate records of any work undertaken.
- Cleaning shower heads and waste traps.
- Supporting the Maintenance Engineer in checking water hardness and water temperatures within the boiler room and keeping accurate records.
- Keeping the water softener topped up with salt.
- Fitting shelves and picture hooks in residents’ rooms as requested.
- Assisting staff with moving furniture as requested.
- Ensuring a supply of matched paint and undertaking redecoration and repair works to the interior and exterior of the building.
- Changing light bulbs and cleaning shades as required.
- Ensuring that the grounds and car park are free from litter.
- Ensuring external bin areas are kept clean and tidy.
- Supporting the Life Enriching Activity Lead/Life Enriching Activity Co-ordinators in the implementation of a whole home approach to the provision of meaningful occupation for all residents, taking a proactive attitude towards the engagement of all residents at all times.
- Being flexible to work in several KYN Homes, supporting other maintenance personnel, and covering holiday periods.
- Being able to carry out the physical demands of the job safely.
- Adhering to KYN’s policies and procedures.

- Experience in a similar role.
- A professional, who understands the importance of maintaining high standards – working to statutory requirements and compliance to ensure our residents enjoy a safe and comfortable environment.
