Maintenance Electrician

Electrician – Permanent (Full Time) | Serco: Wishaw General Hospital, ML2 0DP

Salary: £41,608 - £43,441 per annum + Corporate Benefits Package Hours: Monday–Friday Location: Wishaw General Hospital (ML2 0DP)


About the Role

Ready to create a lasting impact? As an Electrician in our Estates team, you’ll ensure critical hospital systems remain safe, reliable, and operational—so our teams can focus on delivering exceptional patient care.

This role is integral—your expertise will maintain and enhance electrical infrastructure across the hospital, supporting a healthier, safer future for the community.


What You’ll Do

You’ll be trusted to:

  • Provide specialised electrical advice to estates teams and contractors
  • Conduct planned and reactive maintenance on electrical plant, equipment, and building systems
  • Perform fault-finding, testing, inspection, and diagnostics on complex electrical systems
  • Carry out installations, repairs, calibrations, and validations in compliance with regulations
  • Use calibrated test equipment to verify the safe operation of systems including wiring, emergency generators, and critical services
  • Participate in an on-call rota for emergency out-of-hours support
  • Maintain accurate documentation (work orders, test certificates, and reports)
  • Support and mentor apprentices and maintenance assistants as required

  • A recognised electrical trade qualification along with experience in complex building environments
  • Strong fault-finding skills, the ability to work autonomously, and the confidence to prioritise tasks under pressure
  • Proficiency in electrical regulations, including BS7671 (Wiring Regulations), and understanding of safe systems of work
  • Hands-on experience such as:
    • Building Management Systems
    • Medical gases
    • HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) systems
  • The initiative to solve problems while maintaining high standards of safety and quality
  • Willingness to embrace further training (provided where necessary)

Vetting & Checks

This role requires: ✔ PVG Scheme membership (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) ✔ Occupational Health Questionnaire to assess suitability
