About the Role

The Electrical Engineer is a hands-on role responsible for the safe, compliant and reliable operation of the electrical systems, equipment and infrastructure across the LabTech estate. Working as part of our established Electrical Maintenance Team, this role covers planned preventative maintenance (PPM), periodic inspection and testing (EICR), reactive maintenance, fault finding, repairs and electrical testing, ensuring that all electrical installations remain safe, compliant and fully operational.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive electrical maintenance in accordance with maintenance schedules, manufacturer recommendations and site requirements.
• Carry out electrical installation condition reports (EICRs), inspection and testing, and complete the associated certification.
• Conduct routine inspections of electrical installations, wiring, distribution systems, equipment and associated infrastructure, identifying defects, deterioration, potential hazards and non-compliance issues.
• Diagnose, troubleshoot and rectify electrical faults, including loss of power, circuit failures, nuisance tripping and equipment malfunctions.
• Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests, electrical breakdowns and emergency power failures, safely isolating faults and restoring electrical services in accordance with approved procedures and safe systems of work.
• Carry out electrical testing, inspection and functional checks on electrical equipment and systems, using appropriate test equipment and diagnostic techniques to identify faults and verify safe operation.
• Repair, replace and install electrical components, including cables, wiring, sockets, switches, lighting fittings, protective devices and associated equipment.
• Carry out safe isolation, testing and reinstatement procedures in line with site safe systems of work.
• Undertake electrical installation, maintenance and repair works in accordance with current UK legislation, regulations and industry standards.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, including inspection findings, test results, PPM activities, reactive repairs and component replacements.
• Prepare technical reports and provide recommendations for remedial works, repairs, upgrades or replacement of electrical assets.
• Escalate significant defects, recurring faults, safety concerns and equipment failures to management.
• Work closely with the Facilities team, contractors and specialist suppliers, adapting to changing priorities and contributing wherever required to achieve shared goals.
• Carry out in-service inspection and testing of portable and transportable equipment in line with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 and PUWER.
• Maintain LV distribution infrastructure, including switch rooms, sub-mains, distribution boards and protective devices, and understand the boundary with HV assets and the responsibilities of the appointed Authorised Person.
• Support the maintenance and routine testing of standby and resilience assets, including generators, UPS systems and automatic transfer switches, working with specialist contractors where appointed.
• Review contractor RAMS, method statements and competency evidence, issue and supervise permits to work for electrical works, witness contractor testing and act as LabTech's technical point of control for electrical isolations on site, maintaining accurate permit and isolation records.
• Own the electrical asset register and PPM schedule, keeping asset data, locations and service histories accurate and up to date.
• Maintain external, architectural, festoon and market lighting across the estate, together with power supplies to market traders, temporary tenants and events, including temporary distribution, generator hook-ups and any electric vehicle charging equipment installed on the estate.
• Maintain electrical services to food and beverage tenancies, including small power, extract and interlock arrangements, cellar and pump circuits, and RCD protection.
• Support electrical metering and sub-metering across the estate, including meter reads, sub-meter integrity and the data used for tenant recharges and energy reporting, together with associated BMS interfaces.
