Maintenance Engineer

Hirwaun, Wales | Permanent

Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a leading food manufacturing business in Hirwaun, Wales. You will be responsible for maintaining and improving production equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. This is an excellent opportunity to work with modern manufacturing machinery while benefiting from ongoing training and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned, preventative, corrective, and reactive maintenance.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and minimise production downtime.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions.
  • Support equipment start-ups, changeovers, calibrations, and upgrades.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records using the CMMS.
  • Work closely with production teams to improve reliability and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, hygiene, and food safety standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering qualification (or recognised trade qualification).
  • Maintenance engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Knowledge of motors, gearboxes, pneumatic systems, and basic PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
  • Experience using CMMS or maintenance management systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and Health & Safety awareness.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within food manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and food-safe engineering practices.
  • Experience with automated production, packaging equipment, robotics, or vision systems.
  • Lean or Six Sigma experience.
