Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our client's engineering team at a fast-paced food manufacturing site. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving production and site equipment to ensure maximum uptime, safety, and compliance with food industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on production and packaging machinery
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults on PLC-controlled systems, motors, drives, sensors, and control panels
- Support mechanical maintenance activities when required
- Ensure all work is completed in line with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations
- Minimise downtime by responding promptly and effectively to breakdowns
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability and efficiency
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation
- Support installation and commissioning of new equipment
- Work closely with production teams to ensure smooth operations

Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Maintenance Engineer within a food or FMCG manufacturing environment (highly desirable)
- Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Experience with PLCs (fault finding only), inverters, and automated machinery
- Recognised electrical qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, or equivalent)
- Ability to read electrical schematics and technical drawings
- Good understanding of mechanical systems (gearboxes, bearings, conveyors, pneumatics)
- Knowledge of food safety standards such as BRC, HACCP, or GMP
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
