Salary: £48,000 per annum
Position Type: Permanent, Full Time
Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 37 hrs per week

About Us

We have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join our team based at our Confectionery Factory in Halifax. As the Maintenance Engineer, you will take on a management level role on site and play a key part in improving reliability through continuous improvement projects, root cause analysis, and implementing Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) methodologies.

Nestlé Halifax Factory in West Yorkshire is the home of the iconic confectionary brand Quality Street, amongst several other well-known brands such as After Eight. These are produced through controlled process plants and automated filling and packing lines.


Your Impact

As a Maintenance Engineer, you'll help drive asset reliability, improve manufacturing performance, and support the successful delivery of maintenance and continuous improvement strategies across the factory. Through data-driven decision-making, coaching, and technical expertise, you'll help reduce downtime, improve efficiency, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Reliability & Continuous Improvement: Identify reliability risks and lead continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment performance and asset reliability.
  • Problem Solving & Performance: Analyse equipment performance data and conduct root cause analysis to reduce downtime and prevent recurring issues.
  • Maintenance Strategy & Compliance: Support maintenance plans and engineering activities while ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and change management standards.
  • Capability Building: Coach and mentor technicians, apprentices, and operators to strengthen maintenance capability and support autonomous maintenance practices.

Your Ingredients for Success

You'll bring a combination of engineering knowledge, practical maintenance experience, and strong problem-solving skills gained within a manufacturing environment. You will be comfortable working collaboratively across teams, using data to identify opportunities for improvement, and influencing stakeholders to deliver positive outcomes. A recognised engineering qualification alongside experience with automated manufacturing equipment is essential.

  • Engineering Qualification: NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent qualification, with dual-skilled experience being advantageous.
  • Maintenance & Manufacturing Experience: Experience working within a fast-paced manufacturing environment with an understanding of maintenance and reliability principles.
  • Technical Problem Solving: Knowledge of structured problem-solving and root cause analysis methodologies to deliver sustainable improvements.
  • Automation & Control Systems: Experience working with automated manufacturing equipment and programmable logic controllers (PLCs), with Allen Bradley experience beneficial.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Ability to build effective relationships, influence stakeholders, and support the development of others through coaching and mentoring.
  • Organisation & Initiative: Ability to prioritise workload, work independently, and proactively identify opportunities to improve performance and efficiency.
