About the Role

We're looking for an Automated Packing Machine Engineer to keep our automated packing and sorter machines running safely, reliably, and at full output. You'll be first on scene when a machine faults or fails - diagnosing the problem quickly, fixing it where you can, and escalating when you can't, so downtime is kept to a minimum and the operation keeps moving.

Alongside reactive fault response, you'll plan and carry out scheduled maintenance and cleaning to keep the machines in optimum condition, reducing the chance of breakdowns in the first place.

Location and Working Hours

  • Location: On site at our Fulfilment Centre in Northampton
  • Working Hours: 10am - 6pm, Monday to Friday with flexibility required

About Us

At J&J Global Fulfilment we help hundreds of eCommerce brands grow and scale globally. Our team is fast, supportive, and proud of the work we do. We believe in teamwork, respect, safety, and celebrating success together. Following a merger at the end of 2025 with QLS Group we are building on our established presence in the UK, Europe, and the USA.

Why Work for Us?

  • Salary: £40K - £50K depending on experience
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • up to 5% matched pension
  • Enhanced sick pay
  • Enhanced maternity pay
  • Mental Health Support - we have a team of trained Mental Health First Aiders, to support you when you may need it
  • Life assurance
  • Paid volunteering opportunities
  • Summer and Christmas parties

What You'll Be Doing...

  • Acting as first responder to fault alerts and machine errors on automated packing and sorter lines, diagnosing the issue and restoring safe running as quickly as possible
  • Carrying out hands-on repairs on mechanical, electrical, and PLC-controlled faults
  • Escalating faults you can't resolve yourself to our Site Services Manager or the machine vendor, with clear, accurate fault detail so the right help arrives first time
  • Following safe working procedures around moving machinery, conveyors, and electrical systems at all times
  • Logging every fault and repair accurately, so recurring issues can be identified and designed out
  • Carrying out planned preventative maintenance, inspections, and basic servicing on packing machines to a set schedule
  • Managing spares and consumables stock for common faults, so repairs can happen on the spot rather than waiting on parts
  • Following documented maintenance scheduled, SOPs, and safety checklists
  • Monitoring machine status hour by hour during your shift and reporting anything affecting throughput to the Head of Operations immediately
  • Liaising with the Operations teams to keep them updated on equipment status and expected repair times
  • Supporting the Site Services Manager with wider site maintenance activity, including MHE servicing and call-outs, compactor and baler maintenance, and insurance inspections

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
