Set on the banks of the River Avon in the beautiful Roman city of Bath and within walking distance to all the city's sites and attractions.

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Maintenance Engineer to join the team at DoubleTree by Hilton Bath.

The successful candidate will have strong general property maintenance and repair skills and will play an important role in ensuring that the hotel, its bedrooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities and equipment are maintained to a high standard.

This role will focus on both planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs, ensuring that maintenance issues are identified and resolved efficiently to provide a safe, comfortable and high-quality environment for our guests and colleagues.

Your role

The role requires someone who will be hands-on with repair and general maintenance. You will meet time deadlines, liaise with contractors and take responsibility for health and safety on the property. The right candidate, therefore, must be organised, a good communicator, and a hands-on manager.

Key Responsibilities

Planned Preventative Maintenance

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in accordance with the hotel's maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Conduct regular inspections of guest bedrooms, public areas, back-of-house areas and hotel facilities.
  • Identify potential maintenance issues before they develop into larger problems.
  • Complete routine maintenance tasks to maintain the condition, appearance and functionality of the property.
  • Maintain accurate records of completed preventative maintenance and outstanding works.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of preventative maintenance schedules.

General Repairs and Maintenance

  • Carry out a wide range of general maintenance and repair work across the hotel.
  • Respond promptly to reactive maintenance requests from guest bedrooms, public areas and back-of-house departments.
  • Undertake basic repairs relating to plumbing, electrical fixtures, carpentry, decorating and general building maintenance within the scope of the role and individual competence.
  • Repair or replace fixtures, fittings, furniture and equipment where required.
  • Carry out minor painting and decorating work to maintain the appearance of the hotel.
  • Diagnose maintenance faults and determine appropriate repair solutions.
  • Escalate specialist or complex repairs to the Maintenance Manager or approved external contractors where necessary.

Guest Bedrooms and Public Areas

  • Ensure guest bedrooms are maintained to a high standard and that maintenance issues are resolved efficiently to minimise any impact on the guest experience.
  • Carry out regular room inspections and identify defects requiring repair.
  • Support the maintenance and upkeep of public areas, meeting spaces, corridors, restaurants and other guest facilities.
  • Work discreetly and professionally when carrying out maintenance in guest-facing areas.

Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Carry out all maintenance activities in accordance with hotel health and safety procedures.
  • Ensure work areas are kept safe, clean and secure at all times.
  • Use appropriate personal protective equipment and safe working practices.
  • Report any health and safety concerns, hazards or defects immediately.
  • Support statutory testing and compliance requirements as directed by the Maintenance Manager.
  • Ensure that only work within individual competence and authorisation is undertaken.
  • Maintain a strong awareness of fire safety and emergency procedures.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain maintenance tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and organised condition.
  • Assist with the management and organisation of maintenance supplies and materials.
  • Work closely with Housekeeping, Front Office, Food and Beverage and other hotel departments to resolve maintenance issues efficiently.
  • Liaise professionally with external contractors when required.
  • Assist with larger maintenance projects and improvement works across the hotel.
  • Participate in an on-call or emergency response rota where required.
  • Provide support to the wider hotel operation during busy periods and operational emergencies.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties consistent with the role.

Person Specification

Essential Skills And Experience

  • Previous experience in a general maintenance, property maintenance, facilities or building maintenance role.
  • Good practical knowledge across a range of general maintenance disciplines.
  • Experience of carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical fixtures, carpentry, decorating and general building repairs.
  • Ability to identify faults and carry out effective repairs.
  • Experience working with maintenance management systems or job logging systems is desirable.
  • Good understanding of health and safety requirements.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple maintenance requests.
  • Strong problem-solving and practical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience working within a hotel, hospitality, residential or commercial property environment.
  • Relevant trade qualifications or practical training.
  • Experience working within a large or multi-faceted property.
  • Knowledge of basic building services and plant equipment.
  • Experience supporting statutory compliance and safety checks.

You must have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for this role. Documented evidence of eligibility will be required from all candidates prior to commencing employment.
