We are delighted to be working with a leading higher education organisation to find a Maintenance Electrician to help maintain a diverse estate comprising of academic buildings, student accommodation, laboratories, offices, sports facilities and communal areas.
You will become part of an experienced in-house Estates and Facilities team responsible for keeping the campus safe, functional and welcoming for students, staff and visitors.
About Your New Job
As a Maintenance Electrician, you will be responsible for the safe and effective maintenance of electrical systems across the campus and student accommodation facilities. Your duties will include:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive electrical repairs.
- Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults in academic buildings, residences, communal areas and plant rooms.
- Maintaining systems including lighting, emergency lighting, small power, distribution boards, access control and other building services equipment.
- Supporting statutory compliance, health and safety checks and the safe operation of campus facilities.
- Working with other maintenance disciplines and specialist contractors when required.
- Providing a professional and helpful service to students, staff and visitors.

The role may involve working in occupied student accommodation and responding to urgent maintenance issues, particularly during peak periods.
The buildings are located across a large campus so this role will be foot mobile and requires you to be physically fit.
To apply, you will need:
- A recognised Level 3 electrical qualification, such as an NVQ or City & Guilds qualification in Electrical Installation, Electrical Maintenance or a related discipline.
- A current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification – BS 7671.
- Relevant experience as a maintenance electrician, ideally within commercial premises, education, healthcare, residential, facilities management or student accommodation.
- Good knowledge of electrical maintenance, fault-finding and safe isolation procedures.
- An understanding of health and safety requirements, including risk assessments and permit-to-work systems.
- The ability to communicate professionally with colleagues, contractors, students and other building users.
- A proactive approach and the ability to manage maintenance tasks safely and efficiently.

Desirable qualifications and experience
- Experience working in a live, occupied environment.
- Asbestos Awareness and relevant health and safety training.
- Experience using a computerised maintenance management system.
