Allied Mills is part of Associated British Foods and operates seven modern flour milling units across three production sites in Belfast, Manchester and Tilbury. We are also one of a very limited number of businesses able to produce semolina from Durum wheat in one of our specialist mills. Allied Mills is the UK’s third largest miller and mills wheat for everything from bread to bagels, baguettes and biscuits, pasties to pastries, doughnuts, cookies, burger buns and pizzas, naan bread and chapattis, noodles and pasta. The majority of our flour goes into household bread brands such as Kingsmill soft white bread, Kingsmill 50/50, Allinson’s and many more.

Overview Of Role

Company: Allied Mills

Location: James Neill, 1 College Place North, Belfast, BT1 6BG

Hours: Mon – Fri 8am – 5pm (37.5 hrs/week). Call out 1 in every 3 weeks.

We have a great opportunity for a Maintenance Engineer to join an experienced team, providing a first-class service at our flour mill. In this role, the successful candidate will be required to carry out planned, predictive and reactive maintenance tasks in line with safety and quality standards, to ensure the long term maximum utilisation of the production plant and its compliance with statutory legal requirements. To also contribute to the continual improvement of the plant.

Key Accountabilities

  • Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance across a range of production equipment
  • Ensure all machinery operates efficiently, safely, and in line with regulatory requirements
  • Support root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Work closely with production and engineering teams to minimise downtime and improve efficiencies
  • Uphold best practices in health, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Contribute to lean maintenance practices, including TPM and CI tools

The Right Person

  • Experience of replacing common mechanical drive couplings, chains, belts, rolling element bearings.
  • Experience of industrial 3 phase motor and control systems and their interaction with modern PLC systems.
  • Experience of a plant with pneumatic control and operation and common industrial bearing systems.
  • Experience of compressed air systems, pneumatic components.
  • A great customer focus with a flexible and adaptable approach.
  • Self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative, be punctual and reliable.
  • Health and Safety awareness (essential)
  • Food Safety awareness (desirable)
  • Experience as a maintenance engineer in an operational environment preferably FMCG, Food or drink.
  • Computer literate.
  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship, with a formal qualification.
