Maintenance Engineer

Permanent, Site based, Full Time, 38.75 hours, Monday to Friday 11:30am to 8:00pm

Your new role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrically Biased Maintenance Engineer to join the Operations Maintenance Team at Häfele UK in Rugby.

You will play a key role in ensuring our mechanical handling equipment operates safely, efficiently and reliably across our automated distribution environment. Working on a variety of systems including conveyors, automated cranes, robots, shuttle systems and barcode scanning networks, you will help maximise equipment uptime and support continuous operational improvement.

Working closely with the Engineering & Process Improvement Manager, Senior MHE Engineer and operational teams, you will contribute to improvement projects, support the development of engineering best practice and share your knowledge with colleagues and apprentices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out fault finding, diagnostics, repairs and maintenance on mechanical handling and automated systems.
  • Maintain and support conveyors, robots, cranes, shuttle systems and associated electrical control systems.
  • Analyse breakdowns, identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities to agreed schedules.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and engineering projects.
  • Work closely with operations teams to minimise downtime and maximise productivity.
  • Coordinate and manage contractors, ensuring all work is completed safely, on time and to the required standard.
  • Promote and maintain a positive health and safety culture, identifying and reporting unsafe conditions and practices.
  • Monitor and achieve departmental KPIs and objectives.
  • Support the development of fellow engineers and apprentices through coaching and knowledge sharing.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies relating to health and safety, environmental responsibility, equality, diversity and inclusion.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Completed apprenticeship in Electrical Maintenance Engineering or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience working in an electrically biased, multi-skilled maintenance engineering role.
  • Strong knowledge of automation and electrical control systems.
  • Experience with Siemens S7 PLCs and inverter-driven systems.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks including Profinet, Profibus, CAN Bus and AS-i.
  • Experience of barcode scanning systems and networks.
  • Experience maintaining automated picking cranes.
  • Experience with pallet and tote conveyor systems.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to work safely at height.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety best practice.
  • IOSH qualification or willingness to work towards achieving one.
