Job Description
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Perform hands-on fault diagnosis and repair of plant equipment, resolving issues efficiently to minimize operational downtime and maintain productivity.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external contractors to schedule and execute preventive and breakdown maintenance activities, ensuring timely repairs and maintenance.
- Manage spare parts inventory to guarantee stock availability, preventing delays in maintenance tasks and ensuring smooth operations.
- Conduct regular inspections of machinery and equipment, documenting all maintenance activities, repairs, and downtime for tracking and reporting purposes.
- Lead and manage capital projects, including coordination with contractors, ensuring schedules are met, and controlling related expenditures to ensure project success.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards by fostering a zero-harm environment, maintaining adherence to corporate safety guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical expertise and support during equipment installation and acceptance testing, ensuring new systems meet operational standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in safety, cost efficiency, product quality, and service delivery through the application of best maintenance practices and process optimization.
Salary: £54,000 + annual bonus (typically 10% of base salary)
Hours: Monday–Friday 37.5 hours a week (typically 8:00–16:00, with flexibility for occasional call-outs)

Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Base Location: Daventry, (covering predominantly Litchfield and an additional site in Daventry), as well as supporting the wider team to cover absence and holidays.

About the Role
We’re looking for a Field-Based Multi-Skilled Engineer with an electrical bias to support several CHEP service centres across the Daventry region. You’ll be responsible for maintaining, fault-finding, and improving automated equipment across multiple sites, ensuring high levels of safety, reliability, and operational performance.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, autonomy, and the chance to make a real impact across multiple operations.
What You’ll Do
- Deliver proactive and reactive maintenance across multiple CHEP facilities
- Diagnose faults and conduct detailed root cause analysis
- Drive continuous improvement across equipment and maintenance processes
- Support site reliability initiatives: identify failure modes, analyze trends, and implement corrective actions
- Assist with project work, upgrades, and change initiatives
- Use CMMS to log, track, and manage maintenance activities
- Supervise contractors and issue work permits
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with regulations and CHEP standards
What We Need From You
- Strong electrical bias with relevant electrical qualifications
- Level 3 Engineering Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical/Mechanical Maintenance
- Multi-skilled capability across electrical and mechanical disciplines
- Experience in fast-paced, safety-critical or automated environments
- Confident fault-finding skills (electrical, mechanical, PLC)
- Ability to read engineering drawings and use workshop tools
- Experience with automation, PLCs, robotics, or similar technologies (highly desirable)
- A proactive, safety-focused mindset and the ability to work independently across multiple sites
- Full UK driving licence
