Maintenance Engineer – Food Manufacturing
Salary: Circa £40,000 per annum, depending on experience
Hours: 49 hours per week
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Access Personnel are currently recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join an established and busy food manufacturing business.
This is an excellent permanent opportunity for a practical, hands-on engineer who enjoys working across a varied range of production machinery and equipment. Our client is looking for someone who can become an integral part of their existing engineering team, supporting the continued reliability and smooth operation of a busy production facility.
The role would particularly suit someone with previous experience within food manufacturing, seafood processing or a similar production environment.
The Role
Working as part of the site's engineering team, you will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance across a wide range of production machinery and associated equipment.
Equipment on site includes conveyors, graders, filleting machinery, ice machines and a variety of other mechanical and production equipment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across production machinery and equipment
- Diagnosing mechanical and basic electrical faults and completing repairs efficiently
- Responding to breakdowns and returning equipment to operational service with minimal disruption to production
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and maintaining accurate maintenance records
- Installing, assembling, repositioning and testing machinery where required
- Identifying recurring faults and assisting with root-cause analysis
- Carrying out mechanical modifications, fabrication and adaptations as required
- Supporting improvements to equipment reliability and preventative maintenance schedules
- Identifying spare parts and stock requirements
- Ensuring machinery is correctly isolated and made safe before maintenance work is undertaken
- Assisting and supervising specialist service engineers when required
- Supporting and providing guidance to apprentice engineers
- Maintaining high standards of health and safety throughout all engineering activities

What We're Looking For
We are looking for a practical, mechanically minded engineer who is comfortable turning their hand to a variety of maintenance tasks.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience in a Maintenance Engineer, Maintenance Fitter, Mechanical Engineer or similar role
- Experience working within a food manufacturing, seafood processing or similar production environment
- Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding ability
- Experience working with conveyors and production/processing machinery
- Basic electrical fault-finding knowledge
- Experience with planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdowns
- Fabrication and general mechanical repair skills
- A good understanding of machinery isolation and safe systems of work
- The ability to work independently as well as part of an engineering team
- A proactive approach to identifying and resolving engineering issues

You do not need to be an electrical specialist for this position. The business already has electrical expertise within the engineering team, so the emphasis is on finding a strong, versatile and hands-on maintenance engineer.
Hours & Shift Pattern
The position is based on a 49-hour working week, operating a rotating shift pattern:
- Two weeks on day shift, starting approximately 4:30am or 5:30am
- Followed by two weeks on back shift, approximately 1:30pm – 10:15pm
- Some Saturday working is included within the role
Salary & Package
A salary of approximately £40,000 per annum is available, with some flexibility depending on the successful candidate's experience and background.
