We are looking for an experienced and motivated Maintenance Engineer – Mechanical to join our client's Engineering team in Stornoway.

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of our manufacturing facilities. Working closely with the Engineering and Operations teams, you will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, equipment repairs and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving problems, takes ownership of their work and is keen to develop their technical skills and career.

Key Responsibilities

As Maintenance Engineer – Mechanical, you will:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and support major overhauls during scheduled downtime.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to equipment breakdowns, minimising downtime and supporting production continuity.
  • Diagnose mechanical faults and repair or replace defective components.
  • Accurately record maintenance activities using internal IT systems.
  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors undertaking engineering work on site.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects designed to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and performance.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and manage spare parts inventory.
  • Work closely with the Operations team to ensure the efficient running of the factory.
  • Ensure all engineering activities are carried out in accordance with health & safety procedures, permits to work, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Provide engineering support outside normal working hours and participate in an on-call and emergency breakdown rota.
  • Participate in daily operations meetings and contribute to effective communication across departments.
  • Take responsibility for your own professional development, actively seeking opportunities to develop your skills and support career progression.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • A qualified or experienced mechanical engineer with strong practical maintenance experience.
  • Confident in fault finding, diagnosis and problem solving.
  • Able to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • A reliable team player who demonstrates a strong sense of ownership and personal responsibility.
  • Proactive, positive and willing to learn and develop.
  • Comfortable working on their own initiative.
  • Organised with strong time-management skills.
  • Committed to ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Level 3 Certificate in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in an engineering or maintenance environment.
  • Understanding of relevant standards and systems, including TS16949, IOSH/NEBOSH and ISO 14001.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Working Environment

This is a hands-on engineering role within a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Comply fully with food safety, hygiene, health & safety and environmental requirements.
  • Work at height and enter confined or restricted areas where required, subject to appropriate training, risk assessments and safe systems of work.
  • Participate in an on-call arrangement and attend emergency breakdowns when required.
