Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer
Locations: Telford & Much Wenlock
Salary: £40,000 – £50,000 per annum, depending on experience
Employment Status: Full-Time, Permanent
We are currently recruiting for two Multi-Skilled Engineer positions within established and growing manufacturing environments.
Both positions offer the opportunity to join a stable engineering team and play a key role in maintaining production equipment, reducing downtime and supporting continuous improvement.
There are two vacancies available, with one position operating on each of the following shift patterns:
Position 1 – Days:
Monday – Thursday 08:00 – 17:00
Friday 07:00 – 16:00
Position 2 – Rotating Days & Nights:
4 on / 4 off
07:00 – 19:00 / 19:00 – 07:00
The Role
As a Multi-Skilled Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining the reliability and efficiency of production equipment through planned preventative maintenance, reactive breakdown repairs, fault finding and continuous improvement.
Working within a busy manufacturing environment, you will support a broad range of production machinery and plant, helping to minimise downtime and ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
The role is suited to an experienced engineer with strong mechanical and electrical skills who enjoys a hands-on environment and taking ownership of engineering problems.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Reliability
- Carry out mechanical and electrical fault finding, repairs and preventative maintenance.
- Complete planned preventative maintenance activities and maintain accurate engineering records.
- Diagnose and resolve breakdowns efficiently to minimise downtime and maximise production output.
- Identify recurring equipment failures and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Monitor machinery and components for defects or signs of impending failure.
- Maintain and support a range of industrial production equipment, including pumps, conveyors, pneumatic systems, motors, sensors, filling and blending equipment and associated machinery.
- Interpret electrical schematics, engineering drawings and technical information.
- Complete maintenance activities safely and efficiently in line with agreed procedures.
- Ensure effective communication with colleagues during shift handovers where applicable.

Engineering Support & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and production performance.
- Support continuous improvement and maintenance improvement initiatives.
- Assist with the installation, commissioning and improvement of new machinery and plant equipment.
- Support PLC fault finding and work alongside external automation providers where required.
- Lead or support minor engineering projects from concept through to completion.
- Provide technical support and guidance to production teams.
- Use maintenance information and equipment history to identify opportunities to reduce recurring breakdowns and downtime.
Spare Parts & Suppliers
- Manage engineering spare parts and ensure critical components are available when required.
- Source and order replacement parts, components and maintenance consumables.
- Liaise with suppliers, OEMs and external contractors for technical support.
- Support the maintenance of appropriate stock levels for critical engineering spares.
Health & Safety
- Promote a strong health and safety culture across all engineering activities.
- Ensure maintenance and repair work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and engineering workmanship.
- Report potential hazards, equipment defects and safety concerns promptly.
- Ensure appropriate PPE and safe working practices are followed at all times.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Recognised electrical qualification.
- Minimum Level 3 qualification in an electrical discipline.
- Previous experience in a multi-skilled maintenance engineering role.
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Ability to fault find electrical systems including motors, sensors and contactors.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and engineering drawings.
- Experience working with pneumatic systems and industrial production equipment.
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Proactive approach to maintenance and fault finding.
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full UK driving licence.

Desirable
- PLC fault-finding experience.
- Experience within a food, manufacturing, processing or industrial environment.
- Experience with Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM).
- Knowledge of continuous improvement, TPM, 5S or structured problem-solving techniques.
- Forklift or Telehandler licence, or willingness to undertake training.
- Experience supporting equipment installation and commissioning projects.
- Experience using a CMMS or computerised maintenance management system.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for practical, hands-on engineers who take ownership of their work and enjoy solving technical problems.
You will be proactive and self-motivated, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently while contributing positively to the wider engineering and production teams.
The ability to communicate effectively with production colleagues, suppliers and external contractors is important, as is a strong commitment to health, safety and maintaining high engineering standards.
