Maintenance Engineer – Night Shift

Role: Full-time, permanent
Location: Barnstaple, Devon
Salary – Night Shift: Circa. £52,000 pa (including generous shift premium) + bonus + significant benefits
Working Hours: Night Shift: Monday – Thursday: 21:00pm – 06:30am

The Role

We’re seeking an experienced and proactive Electro-Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to help us provide comprehensive, multi-skilled support to our Packing department. Following planned schedules and troubleshooting reactive repairs, your work will include installation, commissioning, maintenance and modification of electrical and mechanical equipment and site service systems across the pharmaceutical production cycle, in-line with business needs. With a focus on Continuous Improvement, you’ll also develop and implement cost-effective solutions to improve machinery efficiency, reliability and performance to minimise downtime. To complete your work in an efficient manner and deliver high quality results, you’ll liaise with contractors, engineering specialists, manufacturers and parts suppliers, as required.

Valuing safety and quality, maintaining high levels of compliance is central to all you do. With a strong understanding of relevant corporate, statutory and good manufacturing practice (GMP) requirements, you observe all required regulations and guidelines, including: environmental, health and safety (EHS), OPEX and process/validation compliance standards through strict adherence to any risk assessment, provision and use of work equipment regulations (PUWER), Lockout-Tagout-Verify (LTV) and manual handling. Taking pride in your work, you provide an excellent level of customer service at all times, support and mentor your colleagues (including performing effective shift handovers) and work collaboratively with other departments (e.g. Production, Quality), as required.

The Person

  • Experience in a similar engineering maintenance role, ideally in a highly regulated ‘clean room’ environment.
  • A natural problem-solver, you take a creative yet disciplined approach to your work, able to adapt to changing priorities and always keen to learn.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills (in written and spoken English); can relate to colleagues at all levels of authority and navigate cultural differences with ease.
  • Works well on own initiative through a strong attention to detail and time management skills, but comfortable in a team, working together to deliver objectives or projects.
  • Good numeracy skills with a commercial mindset, and equally good IT skills – comfortable working with databases, work-based systems and using the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Holds an engineering apprenticeship or minimum of an ONC level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, with good knowledge of current regulations.
  • COMPEX certification, experience working in ATEX areas and on ATEX certified equipment and an understanding of OPEX objectives and processes would also be beneficial.
