Maintenance Fitter
Omya UK Ltd | Dowlow Plant, Buxton
Permanent Full Time Position

Omya is a leading global producer of industrial minerals and a worldwide distributor of specialty chemicals. At our Dowlow site near Buxton, we produce high-quality ground calcium carbonate products for customers across a wide range of industries. We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join our close-knit maintenance team. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a stable, well-established business that invests in its people, equipment, and training.
Working alongside a skilled team of maintenance professionals, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of our mineral processing plant.

Shift Pattern
This role operates on a rotating shift pattern:
Early Shift
- Monday: 06:00 to 16:00
- Tuesday to Friday: 06:00 to 14:00

Afternoon Shift
- Monday: 12:00 to 22:00
- Tuesday to Friday: 14:00 to 22:00
The role also participates in a 6-week standby rota, providing out-of-hours breakdown cover, including weekend daytime cover between 08:00 and 16:00. A standby allowance is paid for participation in the 1 in 6 rota.
The Role
As a Maintenance Fitter, you will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, installation, and continuous improvement of plant equipment across our mineral processing operation.
Typical duties will include:
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance activities
- Responding to and repairing plant breakdowns safely and efficiently
- Diagnosing and fault finding mechanical issues
- Conducting inspections and reporting equipment condition
- Supporting continuous improvement activities
- Performing fabrication and repair work as required
- Working safely in accordance with site procedures and risk assessments
- Participating in confined space activities following appropriate training
- Supporting plant shutdowns and maintenance projects
- Maintaining effective communication with operations and engineering colleagues
Plant & Equipment
You will gain experience working on a wide range of industrial process equipment, including:
- Crushers
- Screens
- Conveyors
- Bucket elevators
- Screw conveyors
- Gearboxes
- Rotary valves
- Pneumatic conveying systems
- Hydraulic systems
- Pneumatic systems
- Bagging and packing equipment

About You
We are looking for a motivated and safety-conscious mechanical professional who enjoys working in a hands-on industrial environment.
Essential
- Proven industrial mechanical maintenance experience
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- A proactive approach to safety and continuous improvement
Desirable
- Time-served mechanical apprenticeship
- NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification
- Experience within quarrying, mineral processing, aggregates, cement, recycling, chemicals, heavy manufacturing, power generation, mining, or similar process industries
- Welding and fabrication experience
