Job Title - Maintenance Manager
Location - Birmingham, UK
Working Pattern - Monday to Friday, Site-based; flexibility required
Reporting to - Head of Engineering
Role Purpose
To lead the site maintenance team, ensuring equipment, utilities, and facilities operate safely and reliably. The role combines planned maintenance, responsive support, and continuous improvement to maximise uptime, reduce breakdowns, and protect product quality.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and organise the maintenance team, setting priorities, allocating resources, and building capability.
- Ensure maintenance complies with safety, environmental, food-safety, GMP, and engineering requirements.
- Promote safety through risk assessment, audits, safe systems of work, and timely corrective action.
- Develop preventive and predictive maintenance that improves asset life, reliability, and availability.
- Analyse breakdowns and equipment performance, leading root-cause and continuous-improvement activity.
- Coordinate planned and reactive work with Production and Technical teams, communicating equipment status.
- Control the maintenance budget, contractors, suppliers, and critical spares without compromising standards.
- Maintain audit-ready CMMS records, work orders, inspections, permits, and equipment histories.
- Report safety, reliability, downtime, completion, and cost measures, owning audit actions and escalated risks.
Person Specification
Essential
- Level 3 or equivalent qualification in engineering discipline
- Experience in senior engineering or management capacity within food manufacturing environment.
- Strong leadership, team-development, resource-planning, and performance-management capability.
- Experience in preventive maintenance, reliability, breakdown reduction, and root-cause analysis.
- Knowledge of safety, environmental, statutory inspection, and engineering compliance requirements.
- Experience working to GMP, hygiene, and quality standards with audit-ready records.
- Commercial capability in budgets, contractors, procurement, and spares, with CMMS proficiency.

- Relevant maintenance and safety-management certifications.
- Experience in utilities, energy efficiency, projects, condition monitoring, or predictive maintenance.
