In this critical leadership role, you will take full ownership of the site's engineering strategy. You will lead a dedicated team of mechanical and electrical technicians to drive asset reliability, spearhead world-class preventative maintenance (PPM) regimes, and champion a zero-harm safety culture across a massive fleet of heavy mobile plant and complex fixed processing infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintenance & Reliability Strategy: Develop and execute a robust, proactive maintenance strategy across all fixed processing plant (crushers, screens, washing plants, and extensive conveyor networks) and heavy mobile equipment to safely maximize plant uptime and throughput.
- Safety & Statutory Compliance: Enforce uncompromising health, safety, and environmental standards. Ensure all engineering activities strictly comply with The Quarries Regulations 1999, PUWER, LOLER, and company safe systems of work.
- Team Leadership & Culture: Lead, mentor, and develop a multi-skilled team of electrical/mechanical engineers and external contractors. Drive a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and high engagement.
- Asset Management: Optimize spare parts inventory, manage critical asset lifecycles, and control contractor spend without compromising on quality or safety.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Proven Experience: A strong track record of engineering leadership within a heavy industrial, aggregate, mining, or mineral processing environment. Experience managing high-tonnage, fast-paced operations is highly advantageous.
- Technical Background: Time-served engineer with strong mechanical or electrical credentials and a deep understanding of heavy crushing, screening, and hydraulic systems.
- Regulatory Expertise: Thorough, working knowledge of UK Quarries Regulations 1999 and standard heavy plant safety legislation.
- Qualifications: Relevant safety credentials are highly desirable.
- NEBOSH and/or IOSH Managing Safely
- Time-served mechanical/electrical apprenticeship
- ONC/HNC or equivalent in mechanical engineering is essential
- Leadership Style: A visible, engaging leader who leads by example, communicates clearly at all levels, and thrives on solving complex technical challenges under pressure.
