Maintenance Manager – GKN Aerospace Filton

About the Role

At our GKN Filton site, we specialise in designing and manufacturing large complex structural wing assemblies, detailed metallic components, and wing systems for a mix of civil and military aircraft.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Manager to join us on a permanent basis. This role involves leading reactive and pre-planned maintenance initiatives across multiple manufacturing capabilities while managing our 24/7 operating teams.

Flexibility is key—you’ll need adaptability to engage with the night shift teams, ensuring visibility via early shift meetings to maintain seamless operations.


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead a multi-disciplined team delivering 24/7 maintenance on CNC machines and process equipment, driving daily management processes (e.g., Tier boards).
  • Ensure Predictive Preventive Maintenance (PPM) tasks are completed on time while supporting operational needs.
  • Drive asset uptime and reliability through tactical & strategic initiatives, improving key KPIs (Uptime, MTTR, MTBF, availability).
  • Champion HSE culture and enforce all safety & compliance regulations.
  • Support quality and manufacturing engineering to deliver right-first-time components.
  • Collect & analyse data to foster continuous improvement.
  • Manage financial budgets effectively to maximise value.
  • Oversee contractors, ensuring services meet expectations.
  • Plan & manage maintenance & overhauls, including Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
  • Lead/Facilitate Asset Management & Reliability Team.

What You’ll Bring

Essential:

✔ Leadership experience with multi-disciplinary teams ✔ Technical degree (or equivalent apprenticeship) with 10+ years of industry experience ✔ Proven track record of leadership in a high-m reliant environment ✔ Strong analytical, IT, and communication skills ✔ Experience in driving problem-solving, with a focus on root cause analysis & countermeasure implementation ✔ Ability to work across functions, driving projects & improvements ✔ History of engineering development or the implementation of new maintenance methods ✔ Experience in manufacturing maintenance ✔ Experience in contractor management ✔ Familiarity with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)

Desirable:

🔹 CNC machine shop experience 🔹 Aerospace industry background 🔹 Knowledge of Reliability-Driven Maintenance (RDM)
