Your Responsibilities
As a key part of the site engineering team at BYK UK, this role reports to the Engineering Manager. This site-based position is responsible for leading, shaping, and executing the site mechanical maintenance strategy, from both a preventative and reactive perspective.
Key Accountabilities
- Be the first point of contact for any mechanical breakdowns or queries, and understand the issue sufficiently to prioritise and assign appropriate resources.
- Line management of day mechanical tradespeople and apprentices, including supporting personal and professional growth, attendance and performance management, objective setting and review, annual appraisals, and recruitment and succession planning.
- Technical leadership of shift mechanical tradespeople. Mentoring, upskilling and identifying training needs for both day and shift tradespeople.
- Oversee the use of externally contracted engineering resources (scaffolders, laggers, welders, fabricators, etc) to ensure they are delivering value for the site.
- Provide input and expertise into the site preventative maintenance program to maximise asset reliability and availability.
- Key user and contact point for SAP preventive and reactive maintenance functions, to support end users, ensure they are being used correctly, and are delivering the desired outcome.
- Allocate resources and prioritise tasks, to deliver schedules of work for the mechanical maintenance team.
- Provide guidance on maintenance best practice, then recommend and implement improvements where appropriate.
- Arrange the overhaul of equipment items removed from plant, prior to being returned to the engineering stores. Utilising both internal and external resources, and deciding on the most cost effective repair or replacement strategy.
- Ensure reports are received following any inspections or assessments completed as part of the maintenance activities. Read and understand these reports, challenge recommendations or findings as appropriate, and managing the timely implementation of any agreed corrective actions.
- Champion and develop the condition monitoring program for critical rotating assets on the site. Mentor and grow maintenance team members in the field of condition monitoring, and drive asset reliability.
- Deliver maintenance activities within agreed OPEX and CAPEX budgets, and report progress and variances to update forecasts and long range plans.
- Manage minor capital improvement projects, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to deliver agreed outcomes.
- Ensure plant and maintenance records are completed, asset history is maintained, and procedures are updated as required.
- Monitor performance of maintenance activities and associated plant through regularly reported KPI’s, and identify and implement improvement actions where performance falls short of expectations.
- Work closely with the Maintenance Systems Manager and Site Service Supervisor to optimise the use of internal resources and align maintenance work with other activities on site.
- Manage calibration and servicing of tools and equipment used in support of maintenance activities both in the workshop and on plant.
- Take a leading role in the planning and preparation for maintenance activities carried out during scheduled plant shutdowns.

Your Profile
Required / Essential Qualifications, Experience And Attributes
- Degree or HNC / HND qualified in Mechanical Engineering discipline, or extensive experience in a similar role.
- Proven mechanical experience, gained in a fast paced, regulated manufacturing environment.
- Appreciation of relevant regulations, standards, and best practice relating to work equipment, pressure equipment, lifting equipment, storage tanks, gas fired appliances, and local exhaust ventilation systems.
- Able to challenge from a position of knowledge and articulate logical and constructive arguments.
- Familiarity with condition monitoring, alignment, and lubrication activities in the context of rotating equipment in a production environment.
- Positive leadership and team engagement style, to support, mentor, and grow team members.
- Analytical and structured approach, with an attention to detail and the ability to identify gaps and define effective solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to read, digest, and understand technical documents and reports.
- Working knowledge of H&S systems including permit to work, management of change, risk assessment, and delivering compliance to ensure alignment with the safety culture throughout the organization.
- Proficient in Microsoft office. Knowledgeable on data driven approaches, and promotion of digitalisation.

Desirable Qualifications And Experience
- Knowledge of SAP Plant Maintenance (PM) functions.
- Understanding of NDT techniques and interpretation of results.
- Familiarity with maintenance strategy and FMEA routine development and review.
- Experience in development of asset improvement plans and associated expenditure proposals.
- Competence in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Budget preparation and cost monitoring.
- Input to purchasing and contract management related to mechanical maintenance.
- Ability to prepare capital expenditure proposals and management of capital spend.
- Management of external contractors to deliver value for our business.
