Salary And Benefits

Maintenance Mechanic I - $18.35

Essential Job Functions
- Maintenance Mechanic II may direct the work of a crew in the absence of a supervisor.
- Maintenance Mechanic III serves in a senior position on a small crew and in the absence of a crew leader, may direct the work of a crew.
Performs general building, mechanical, and maintenance work involved with the construction, renovation, maintenance, and repair of water and/or wastewater facilities, machinery, and equipment. Removes, disassembles, repairs, reassembles, and installs various pieces of equipment including valves, pipes, fittings, pumps, motors, meters, and specialized treatment plant machinery; cleans, lubricates, and makes minor adjustments to equipment utilizing small hand and power tools. Assists in minor electrical repairs including the replacement of fuses and minor wiring modifications. Refers to and reads standard construction blueprints in order to perform duties. Performs manual laboring tasks under varying weather conditions; mows and trims landscape, sandblasts and paints facilities and equipment, and performs custodial duties as needed. Safely operates automobiles, light and medium trucks, and may tow trailers to travel to various locations throughout the City to complete work assignments. Prepares and maintains written records and logs on repair and maintenance conducted. This is not intended to be an all-inclusive listing of essential job functions; the performance of other essential functions may be required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and tools utilized in the repair and maintenance of water and/or wastewater treatment facilities, machinery, and equipment.
- Sufficient electrical knowledge to effect minor repairs and adjustments.
- Knowledge of the hazards involved in performing the foregoing specific requirements and the safety precautions to be taken.
- Ability to descend and ascend ladders and stairs to obtain access to effect or make necessary repairs; withstand occupancy in small confined spaces; non-claustrophobic; and complete and maintain records and logs on repairs and maintenance conducted.
- Skill in the use of small hand power tools.
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions.

Minimum Education & Experience
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
- Maintenance Mechanic I must have two (2) years’ experience in maintenance and repair in the mechanical field.
- Maintenance Mechanic II must have three (3) years’ experience in maintenance and repair in the mechanical field.
- Maintenance Mechanic III must have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in maintenance and repair in the mechanic and electrical fields; and a license in industrial or commercial electricity.
- Some electrical experience preferred.
- An equivalent combination of training and experience that is determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
Special Requirement
- Possession of a valid Florida class “B” driver’s license, with air brakes and tanker endorsement, and a good driving record as determined by the City of Winter Haven. Maintenance Mechanic Trainee must be able to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
- Absence of non-prescribed controlled substances in the applicant's system as verified through a screening process administered by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven.

Salary
- $16.80/hour minimum based on qualifications for a Maintenance Mechanic Trainee, $18.35/hour minimum based on qualifications for a Maintenance Mechanic I; $20.09/hour minimum based on qualifications for a Maintenance Mechanic II, and $21.02/hour minimum based on qualifications for a Maintenance Mechanic III, along with the benefits previously listed.
- Through the City’s Progression plan, individuals may advance based on performance and skill development, with opportunities to move into more senior leadership positions supported by ongoing training and performance evaluations.
CDL Benefit available to assist with obtaining a Class B License.
