Bethany Christian Trust is dedicated to ending homelessness in Scotland, one person at a time. Each year, the organization supports nearly 7,000 people across Scotland, working closely with individuals and local communities to prevent and address homelessness. Bethany Christian Trust provides services for families, young people, rough sleepers, and people recovering from addiction. As the need for these services grows, the organization relies on committed team members to help deliver practical support and safe environments for those in need.
Role Description
This is a part-time (3.5 days) Maintenance Officer role based in Edinburgh. The Maintenance Officer will carry out routine repairs, minor refurbishments, and general upkeep across Bethany Christian Trust properties to ensure they are safe, clean, and well-presented for service users and staff. Day-to-day tasks may include basic plumbing, joinery, painting, and minor electrical work, as well as inspecting buildings, identifying maintenance needs, and reporting more complex issues to the Senior Maintenance Officer. The role involves maintaining tools and equipment, adhering to health and safety procedures, and keeping accurate records of work completed. The Maintenance Officer will collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and external suppliers to ensure a responsive and efficient maintenance service.

Qualifications
- Practical maintenance skills in areas such as basic plumbing, joinery, painting, and minor electrical work.
- Ability to conduct property inspections, identify maintenance issues, and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards, safe use of tools and equipment, and basic risk assessment.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work respectfully with diverse service users and colleagues.
- Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and reliability in completing work to agreed standards.
- Previous experience in building maintenance, facilities, or a related trade is highly beneficial.
- Basic IT skills for maintaining records, completing forms, and communicating with the wider team.
- Commitment to the mission of supporting people affected by homelessness and a respectful, non-judgmental approach.
