Role
This is a great opportunity to contribute very practically to Bethany by maintaining safe buildings where we can run services for the people we support and raise vital funds for the work we do. Our buildings need constant attention, and we are looking for someone with the passion and skills to help maintain these properties. The role is based in Edinburgh and involves travel throughout the Central Belt.
As a Maintenance Officer, you will join a small team that responds to maintenance requests and organises repairs. You will have practical property maintenance experience and a broad working knowledge of general trade tasks. You will be able to carry out basic carpentry and joinery tasks, minor plumbing repairs, painting and decorating, and be able to assess and problem-solve repairs. Knowledge of homelessness or other needs of the people we support is a bonus.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
