Maintenance Operative
AASC – East of England
- Full-time role: 37.5 hours per week
- Salary: £27,500 – £33,500 (dependent on experience & skills), plus Serco benefits
- Requirements: Full UK driving licence (vehicle and tools provided)
About the Role
Here at Serco, we work with Asylum Accommodation and Support Services (AASC) to support individuals through the asylum system, including providing temporary accommodation.
As the Maintenance Operative, your key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out reactive and proactive repairs as requested, ensuring they meet the required standards and are completed within Service Level Agreements (SLA) deadlines.
- Completing planned maintenance work delegated by management.
- Managing your own workflow effectively while also collaborating with the team when required.
Exciting opportunities are available in Wigan for candidates with prior maintenance experience, including categories such as joinery, fitting, plumbing, painting & decorating.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- Health & Safety:
- Ensuring your own safety and that of property users during and after maintenance work.
- Material Management – Purchasing and stocking materials from approved Serco suppliers using a company credit card.
- Vehicle Care – Maintaining provided vehicles in a professional and clean condition alongside your colleagues.
- On-Call & Emergency Duties – Once every 8–10 weeks, you’ll perform out-of-hours duties on a rotation basis to ensure 24/7 emergency coverage.

Working Hours
- Weekday hours: 7.5 hours per day (Mon–Fri, 08:00–18:00), aligned with operational needs.

Candidate Requirements
Required:
- Valid full UK driver’s licence.
- Willingness to travel regionally and occasionally across the UK.
- Security clearance checks by the Home Office (mandatory for all roles).
