The Role
The Maintenance Operative will support the upkeep, safety, and efficient operation of site facilities, equipment, and infrastructure. This is a varied hands-on role requiring a practical individual who can carry out general building maintenance tasks, assist engineering and production teams, and support continuous improvement of the site environment.
Key Responsibilities
Activities:
- Carry out routine and reactive building maintenance activities across the site.
- Complete basic joinery, plumbing, decorating, and repair work.
- Repair and maintain doors, locks, fixtures, fittings, and furniture.
- Carry out painting and cosmetic improvements as required.
- Repair and maintain washroom facilities including toilets and associated fixtures.
- Identify and report any building defects, hazards, or maintenance concerns.
Engineering and Maintenance Support
- Assist Maintenance Engineers with planned and reactive maintenance activities.
- Support equipment installation, repairs, and general workshop tasks.
- Prepare tools, equipment, and materials required for maintenance activities.
- Help maintain a clean, organised, and safe maintenance workshop environment.
- Assist with preventative maintenance activities when required.

- Assist machine setters during tooling and product changeovers.
- Support machine tool changes and mechanical adjustment activities where appropriate.
- Assist with the movement, setup, and replacement of machine components.
- Develop knowledge of manufacturing equipment to provide practical support when required.
Materials Handling and Site Logistics
- Operate forklifts and mobile access equipment (including cherry pickers) in accordance with training and site procedures.
- Transport materials, equipment, and spare parts around the site.
- Collect parts, consumables, and supplies from external suppliers when required.
- Support loading, unloading, and storage activities.
Health, Safety and Compliance
- Work safely at all times and comply with company health and safety procedures.
- Follow safe systems of work for working at height and equipment operation.
- Wear and maintain appropriate PPE.
- Report hazards, accidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Participate in safety inspections and improvement initiatives.
Continuous Improvement and Teamwork
- Support continuous improvement projects across the site.
- Suggest practical solutions to maintenance and facility issues.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, production, and facilities teams.
- Demonstrate flexibility by undertaking a wide range of operational tasks.
- Maintain a positive and customer-focused approach when supporting colleagues.

Essential Criteria
Qualifications
- Valid Forklift Truck (FLT) licence.
Experience
- Practical hands-on approach with experience in general maintenance activities.
- Experience supporting engineering or production teams.
- Experience within a manufacturing, facilities, construction, or maintenance environment.
Skills & Knowledge
- Ability to undertake a broad range of building maintenance tasks.
- Comfortable working at height following appropriate training.
- Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritise work.
