Maintenance Operative (Fabric)

We now have an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated Maintenance Operative (Fabric) to join our Boldon Estates team on a fixed-term contract. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced carpenter/joiner looking to broaden their expertise within specialist fire compartmentation remedial works while supporting the delivery of safer healthcare environments.
About the Role
As a Maintenance Operative (Fabric), you will play a key role in delivering fire compartmentation remedial works and fabric maintenance activities across a diverse property portfolio throughout the North East region. Working as part of a dedicated team, you'll be responsible for completing a variety of carpentry and fabric-related repairs to a high standard, ensuring buildings remain safe, compliant, and fit for purpose.
This role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop specialist knowledge, with full training provided in fire compartmentation works. You'll travel between sites across the region, using a company vehicle and fuel card provided, while working closely with colleagues and customers to deliver an excellent service.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive fabric maintenance works across the estate.
- Deliver fire compartmentation remedial works following training and guidance.
- Complete carpentry, joinery, and general fabric repairs to a high standard.
- Ensure all works are completed safely and in line with statutory and company requirements.
- Accurately complete work records and associated documentation.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues, contractors, and customers.
- Support the wider Building Estates team in maintaining a safe and compliant environment.
- Travel across sites throughout the North East region as required.

What You'll Bring
Essential
- NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in Carpentry & Joinery.
- Proven experience within a fabric maintenance or property maintenance environment.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Strong understanding of health and safety requirements.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Desirable
- Experience working within healthcare, commercial, education, or social housing environments.
- Previous exposure to passive fire protection or fire compartmentation works.
- Knowledge of compliance requirements relating to building safety.
Where You'll Be
This is a 6-month fixed-term contract based within the Boldon Estates team, covering sites across the North East. Candidates located within Durham, Sunderland, South Tyneside, Newcastle, or the surrounding areas would be particularly well positioned for the role.
The role is full-time, working 37.5 hours per week.
