Maintenance Operative

Location: West Coast of Cumbria (Including Workington, Whitehaven, Maryport) Salary: £27,500 – £33,500 (dependent on skills and experience) Schedule: Full-time (37.5 hours per week)


About the Role:

Ready to impact a better future? As a Maintenance Operative in our AASC team, you’ll work hands-on to ensure the properties we manage are:

  • Safe
  • Functional
  • Compliant with service standards

Your work directly improves the daily living conditions of the communities we serve. You’ll ensure properties meet Home Office requirements, creating welcoming, compliant, and secure environments.


Key Responsibilities:

You’ll be entrusted with:

  • Providing general building maintenance across a defined area.
  • Reporting and closing faults in the AORA IT system to maintain accurate property records.
  • Ensuring no building defects exist, aligned with Home Office Contract standards.
  • Liaising with approved subcontractors to oversee access, quality, and audit compliance.
  • Conducting annual Portable Appliance Tests (PAT) for assigned properties.
  • Performing specialist trade duties (where applicable) and assisting colleagues with fault-finding.
  • Managing garden maintenance, furniture repairs, and materials procurement via approved suppliers.
  • Responsibly coordinating waste removal in line with recycling guidelines.
  • Meeting KPI-driven targets, prioritising urgent work, and collaborating with Housing Officers.

Requirements:

This role is ideal for you if you have:

  • Experience in building maintenance or a relevant trade
  • Knowledge of health and safety principles and working safely
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to prioritise tasks independently
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, including collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders
  • A valid UK driving licence with the flexibility to travel across the region

Vetting & Security Clearance:

This position requires:

  • Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance, which assesses:
    • Identity
    • Employment history
    • Nationality
    • Criminal record

Additionally, formal Security Clearance (e.g., CTC/SC) may be necessary, involving deeper vetting of:

  • Employment records

  • Criminal history

  • Financial background

  • UK residency requirements may apply for certain clearance levels. -Completion of an Occupational Health Questionnaire is mandatory.
